Northeast Bank Donates $100,000 to Tree Street Youth’s New Canopy Center Project

PORTLAND, Maine, June 26, 2025 – Northeast Bank is proud to announce a significant donation of $100,000 to help Tree Street Youth build a new family discovery center at its expanding Lewiston campus. The bank’s donation is the first significant contribution to Tree Street’s Canopy Center, which is focused on building a new community facility that provides local families access to critical resources. These resources include parental support, as well as health, wellness, financial literacy and high-quality early childhood educational programs, and cultural enrichment opportunities for residents across Lewiston/Auburn.
Northeast Banks’ contribution advances development of the Canopy Center’s project plan and helps launch the fundraising effort to cover expenses for this vital community resource.
"At Northeast Bank, we believe in investing in the communities we serve. Tree Street Youth’s new Canopy Center represents a bold step forward in providing accessible support and opportunity for area families," said Robert Banaski, Chief Retail Banking Officer at Northeast Bank. "We are honored to play a part in bringing this important project to life."
"We are deeply grateful for Northeast Bank’s generous support of the Canopy Center," said Julia Sleeper, Executive Director of Tree Street Youth. "Their early commitment has jump-started our building project and seeded the campaign to make this inclusive community hub a reality.”
Construction of Tree Street Youth’s Canopy Center is hopeful to begin later this year, with an anticipated opening in 2026.

About Tree Street Youth
Founded in 2011 by two Bates College alumnae, Tree Street Youth grew its roots from a local homework help program. The original program – supported by a few college students, 8 high school Street Leaders, and a host of community volunteers – offered 40-60 local youth access to learning opportunities specifically tailored to meet their needs. Tree Street Youth has since grown into a year-round program that serves over 1000 youth Pre-K through seniors in high school. Programming includes academics, empowerment, college access, leadership, enrichment, and mentorship.
