EMV Chip Technology

You are here

There's a new and better way to fight card fraud, so get ready to dip!

A new debit card is on the way to you. This card contains an embedded computer chip that uses EMV technology to validate each card transaction and improve fraud protection. EMV stands for Europay, MasterCard, Visa. It is the global standard for chip-based Debit and Credit Card transactions, and is a joint effort between Europay, MasterCard and Visa to ensure security and global acceptance so that MasterCard and Visa Cards can continue to be used everywhere.

This sophisticated security technology is already protecting cards in more than 80 countries and is now being adopted as the card standard in the United States. Merchants are currently installing new payment terminals that support EMV cards. To make purchases follow these simple steps:

  1. "Dip" your card into a slot

  2. Follow the instructions at the payment terminal(i.e. enter in PIN)

  3. Remove card from slot once transaction is complete
