Northeast Bank announced today that they will join the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy in supporting LearningWorks’ family literacy program with a $5,000 donation. This program is aimed at helping New Mainers in Portland to increase literacy throughout the entire household.

“We know when a family enters a new community – and particularly a new culture, the ability for their children to succeed in school is directly related to support the family receives to successfully integrate into that community,” said Jeanne A. Hulit, President of the Community Banking Division. “Financial literacy is critical for families to ensure a strong foundation and Northeast Bank is pleased to partner with LearningWorks, which has a longstanding history of success.”

LearningWorks, founded in 1967, is a non-profit organization focused on providing learning opportunities for at-risk youth, immigrants and low-income families throughout the Lewiston-Auburn, Biddeford, Sanford and Portland communities.
